Autumn in Full Swing, Photos from October and November

This is a sad time for us. We have closed down the Bear Island House (almost) and are settling back to the life where you don't have to take a boat to get groceries. Still we miss the lake very much, and apparently we missed some stellar northern lights there last weekend.

That said, we have had some nice adventures here on the "mainland."

One highlight was riding our bikes from Bedford MA all the way to the Charles River (and further into Charlestown) entirely on a bike path until we reached Charlestown. We stopped for breakfast at the Kickstand cafe (right on the path in Arlington) and had lunch at Qdoba in Lexington on the way home. All told it was about 33 miles of riding and it was wonderful.

Another highlight was my trip to Princeton NJ to attend a conference in honor of my friend and superstar multidisciplinary nonlinear controls person, Naomi Leonard. It was nice to return to the campus and take some photos.

Other photos include the end of our time on the lake.

And here's my newest video: a video on our solar-powered alumacraft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6edjqAq2oUE

As for news, if you are in NH, I'm reading poetry at Gibson's Bookstore, 45 S. Main Street, Concord, NH on November 15, Wednesday, starting at 4:30. The event includes an open mic.

As always it's lovely to hear from you.

Stay well.

Leaving the Lake Early Morning

A Hike on MT. Kearsarge

We met a friend to hike up Mt. Kearsarge on Halloween. It was warm when we started, and very cool and windy at the top.

The new Community Bike Path that connects to the Minuteman Bikeway

We rode from the end of the Minuteman bikeway in Bedfore, MA, going to Alewife, but stopping at the Kickstand cafe for breakfast on the way. Then we took the community path from Alewife to Davis Square, and continued behind Davis Square all the way past Lechmere station to the Charles river. That leg follows the Greenline extension the whole way. Once at the end, we noodled around Charlestown and North Point Park.

 A trip to Princeton

Well, these are in reverse order and my time in Princeton finished with this beautiful frittata.
Just prior to that I took a bike ride on the canal tow path, where I used to run when I was a graduate student. The conference included a dance choir, a participatory outdoor dance event. Why? How? Because Naomi not only collaborated in her work with neuroscientists, biologists, oceanographers, and engineers, she also worked with dance choreographers. One thing I noticed. EVs are becoming so popular that charging is getting more difficult. I was lucky to arrive at the lone available (and working) charging station when I did, as soon afterward, EV after EV arrived to catch a charge there in a dumpy shopping center on New Rochelle NY.

A trip to the Galleries

My friend and artist Barbara Grad is having a gallery show at Anderson Yezerski Gallery, 460 Harrison St. Boston. We attended the opening.

We went to the Sanctuary in Maynard to see the Bruce Gertz quintet perform some wonderful jazz.
