Summer? Where has Summer Gone

Oh Dear. My last post was in May, just before the summer solstice and now we are on the cusp of the vernal equinox. I have no excuse for not posting except for the things of life. So those are on full display here in these photos: music, lake life, two trips to Cape Cod, a trip to SW NH, SE VT, and Western MA, and more. Plus some poetry news. Plus we both came down with COVID somewhere during summer, which slowed us down a bit to say the least.

My most difficult task now is to choose a representative photo.

Before that, here is some poetry news:

My  poem, "Pat Schroeder Was Our Mother," has won the 2023 New England Poetry Club E.E. Cummings prize for 2023.
On Oct 8, 3 PM ET there will be a virtual celebration and reading of poems by the winners and finalists of this year's New England Poetry Club's prize-winners.

and here is the list of winners and finalists:

If you cannot make the reading, just click that link above a few days after October 8, and links to the poems as well as the recorded reading will all be there.

Also here are links to some recent poetry publications:

And several more poems in printed journals such as Ibbetson Street, Paterson Literary Review, Banyan Review, and Naugatuck River Review.

Autumn Light

There's nothing like the changes of light near the equinox. Here are some lake life photos.
Some of these photos include the recent winds of tropical storm Lee.

Heavy Object Transport

A Trip to 3-Mile Island

We had the chance to spend an overnight in our wonderful camper--The Wake with the Sun houseboat just before the hurricane came in. It was a lovely visit to the island (we swam twice around it) and had lovely company and views.

Back to Bear Island

A trip to SW NH, SE VT, and Western MA

We ended up at Tanglewood to see Alison Krauss and Robert Plant perform together. They did phone it in. But we also went to Putney to see family and to Stoddard NH where some friends have a beautiful place in the Andorra Forest. On the way back we stopped at a Stone Arch bridge near Stoddard. This was just before the floods in VT and NH last July.

Two Cape Trips This Year

These trips included two trips to a houseboat in Provincetown harbor, and lots of oysters, good food, swimming, friends, and blueberry pizza! Aside from this we also saw our friend Charles Coe performing with Blake Newman, Phil Neighbors, Ken Fields, and others at Castle Hill.

Feeling the Barn at Farmstand B & B

We had the chance to see Glen David Andrews and Session Americana perform at the Farmstand B & B in Chocorua, NH  this summer. No one phoned it in. Here are some photos.

First Grade Reading Group Reunion

There were only four of us in this reading group and 3/4 of the group met up in Boston last June.

Art on the Trails: Poetry and Sculpture 2023

Again this year I had the chance to take part as a poet in the Art on the Trails program in Southborough MA. Here are some photos from the day, along with my poem from the book.  The first 2 photos are of Chestnut Hill Farm.

Remick Museum Tamworth NH

We visited the sheep, cattle, and goats at the Remick Museum and Farm.

Bob Sheil Memorial Event

A dear friend, Bob Sheil, passes way last autumn and the celebration of his life was on August 9, 2023 in Waterbury Vt. I drove there with my Bolt, reserved a room in the library for the afternoon, attended the beautiful memorial (yes, Bob was there), and the set out for my campsite on the Waterbury Reservoir at Little River State Park. It was a beautiful event and a wonderful way to remember Bob.  Here's a photo of him and our dear friend John at our cove in 2016.

Another poem of Carla's

My poem, "Poetic License" in Naugatuck River Review.

An Island Party

I found these while walking on 3-mile Island. They are edible.

Back Yard Black Trumpet Mushroom Garden Collection

I had the chance to collect black trumpet mushrooms from just behind our house regularly this summer.
